Baseball is headed back to Montreal, but the bad news for Expos fans is it's the Blue Jays and it won't be regular-season play. The Jays are expected to announce Tuesday plans for two exhibition games during the spring next year to be played in Montreal's Olympic Stadium, reports Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca.
This would mark the first time Major League Baseball will be played in Olympic Stadium since the Expos became the Washington Nationals. The finals Expos game in Olympic Stadium was a 9-1 loss to the Marlins on Sept. 29, 2004. It drew 31,395, but that was mostly due to the novelty of it being the final game. The game the previous night had a paltry attendance of 5,416 with the night before that drawing just 3,923.
As noted in the Sportsnet report, playing in Montreal lines up with the Blue Jays' goal of becoming the fan favorite throughout all of Canada.
