Mets ace Matt Harvey hasn't pitched since Aug. 24 and has been shut down for the remainder of 2013 because of a partially torn UCL in his throwing elbow. For some time now, the plan has been for Harvey to receive an informed second opinion and then decide whether to attempt rest and rehab or undergo the perhaps-inevitable Tommy John surgery.

On that front, here's this tweet from our own Danny Knobler:

Leaks are possible, of course, but it looks like it will be Tuesday before we know what Dr. James Andrews told Harvey following his exam. Even then don't expect a final decision, as Harvey will likely take time to think and perhaps discuss his options further. So this is all of course still developing.

This season, the 24-year-old right-hander pitched to a 2.27 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and majors-leading 6.16 K/BB ratio across 178 1/3 innings.
