VIDEO: Todd Helton, veteran magician

By Matt Snyder | Baseball Writer

Rockies first baseman Todd Helton -- everyone's favorite Toddfather -- is a 40-year-old veteran. He's playing Thursday in his 2,239th career game. He's retiring after the season as his physical skills are eroding with age -- as happens with everyone eventually.

He still, however, has the savvy to deke opposing baserunners. Even very good ones like Cardinals All-Star Matt Carpenter.

Observe the faux-throw-and-tag manuever Helton pulled on Carpenter in the first inning Thursday:

The look on Carpenter's face says it all.
