The Diamondbacks asked the Dodgers not to celebrate on their home turf -- Chase Field -- if they clinched the NL West title while in Arizona this week. Initially, the Dodgers rather quickly took things down into the clubhouse, but later did this:
Yep, they ran all the way out to the right-center field pool and took a dip. The whole team.
At least one member of the Diamondbacks called it a "classless" move: Willie Bloomquist.
"I think it's tired and disrespectful. It's surprising because they have a lot of veteran guys on that team that I thought were classier than that."
"But there's a fine line between going overboard at someone else's place and doing that, I think. But what are we going to do about it? There's not much we can do about it now. They've clinched the division this year, but if that's how they're going to act and be classless, that's their gig, that's their clubhouse. I just think it's disrespectful and classless."
Remember, these two teams had an epic brawl earlier in the season, so there will now surely be even more bad blood carrying over into next season.
On the flip-side, D-Backs starter Brandon McCarthy didn't seem to mind:
Celebrating is fun. I don't care how and where you do it. Only thing to care about is what we need to do to celebrate in our pool next year.— Brandon McCarthy (@BMcCarthy32) September 19, 2013
I'm more inclined to agree with McCarthy. These are grown men. If their feelings are hurt about how an opponent celebrates, maybe win more games next year.
