"My wife spent money on 251 hotel rooms this year trying to see me and see our boys," Bichette explained. "The tug of being home is just too much."
Bichettte, a former teammate and long-time friend of manager Walt Weiss, was hired on Weiss's recommendation.
This season, the Rockies ranked third in the NL in runs scored, but the denizens of Coors Field almost always do rank highly in unadjusted offensive measures. In terms of runs scored on the road, though, Bichette's Rockies ranked 12th in the 15-team NL. It of course bears mentioning that the hitting coach exerts only so much control when it comes to the success or failure of an offense.
It's not yet certain who will replace Bichette, but the Rockies have an entire offseason to sort that out.
