On Tuesday night, the Tigers, with 4-2 victory over the Twins, clinched a spot in the postseason. They also reduced their magic number in the AL Central to one, which means that their next win or the next Indians loss will mean a third straight division title for Detroit. However, even if the Tigers lose out and Indians win out and the Indians win the tiebreaker game, the Tigers would still be assured of a wild-card berth.

Last season, the Tigers won their 11th pennant but were swept in the World Series by the Giants. This season, besides again having legitimate designs on the World Series, the Tigers may wind up having the AL MVP (Miguel Cabrera) and the AL Cy Young winner (Max Scherzer).

This also marks the first time the Tigers have made the postseason in three straight years since 1907-09. As for manager Jim Leyland, he's now guided Detroit to the playoffs four times in eight seasons on the job.
