Indians designated hitter/pinch hitter Jason Giambi has had several clutch moments this season. One of them came Tuesday night. After the Indians blew a ninth-inning lead, they were facing the possibility of falling back into a tie with the Rangers for the final AL playoff spot.
But Giambi came through with a two-run, walkoff homer. It was the second time this season he hit a walkoff homer against the White Sox in Cleveland. The first came on July 29.
Here are both shots:
On the season, Giambi has come up with several huge hits for the Indians. His overall line isn't impressive, as he's hitting .181/.280/.374.
However, Giambi has brought value to the Tribe at times. As a pinch-hitter, he's just 3-for-14, but all three hits are home runs. Two of them were the walkoff jobs we saw above. He also hit a huge home run in Cincinnati to make a 2-1 lead in the sixth into a 5-1 lead in an eventual win, for example.
With the Indians having just a one-game lead in the race for the last wild card -- not to mention all the reports of his mentorship of several younger players -- I'd say he's more than earned his keep this season.
