Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has received permission from the team to skip their final series of the season this weekend so he can prepare for his upcoming appeal hearing, reports Teri Thompson and Nathaniel Vinton of the New York Daily News.

Earlier this month it was reported that A-Rod's appeal hearing would begin this coming Monday, Sept. 30, the day after the end of the regular season. The hearing is expected to last several sessions and a ruling may not come until November or December.

Rodriguez, 38, was one of 13 players suspended in August. He was the only one of the 13 to receive more than the standard 50-game ban for first time offenders as well as the only player to appeal. A-Rod was suspended 211 games for ties to Biogenesis and attempting to interfere with MLB's investigation.

In 44 games since returning from left hip surgery, Rodriguez has hit .244/.348/.423 (112 OPS+) with seven home runs. Hamstring and calf problems have limited him to DH duties in recent weeks.

The Yankees open a three-game series with the Astros in Houston on Friday. They play their final home game on Thursday night.
