Mariners manager Eric Wedge will not return in 2014 and it was his call. The Mariners made the announcement Friday, saying that Wedge informed the club he won't be returning next season. He will manage the final three games of the 2013 season.

“I accept Eric's decision not to return and thank him for his hard work here the past three years. I want to wish him and his family all the best in the future,” General manager Jack Zduriencik said in a statement.

This was Wedge's third season as Mariners manager. His record was 67-95 in 2011, 75-87 in 2012 and the Mariners are 70-89 this season.

Wedge, 45, suffered a stroke in July and missed 28 games before returning.

Prior to his tenure with the Mariners, Wedge managed the Indians for seven seasons, going 561-573. His Indians won the AL Central and took the eventual World Series champion Red Sox to seven games in the ALCS. He won AL Manager of the Year that season. Still, Wedge's clubs have finished with a winning record in only two of his 10 career seasons as manager.
