On Sunday, the Dodgers announced that outfielder Matt Kemp would be shut down for the remainder of the 2013 season. The Dodgers, of course, are preparing for an NLDS match-up with the Braves, and Kemp won't be able to contribute regardless of how far they go in the playoffs.

Kemp, who's been afflicted lately by an ankle injury, was on crutches Sunday, according to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times. And then there's this:

Kemp this season has lost almost 100 games to various injuries and has hit just .270/.328/.395 when healthy. With that said, vintage Kemp is an MVP-caliber performer, and he had been showing signs of a surge lately. Normally, the Dodgers could fall back on their outfield depth, but Andre Ethier has himself been seriously hobbled of late.

Obviously, consider this the wrong bit of news at just the wrong time for Don Mattingly's club.
