Photo: Government shutdown is Braves harbinger of glory

By Dayn Perry | Baseball Writer

Who has the edge? Pirates-Cardinals | Dodgers-Braves | Tigers-A's | Rays-Red Sox

Spotted prior to first pitch of Dodgers-Braves Game 1 of the NLDS ...

For those who can't make out the text of the sign, it reads: "Last Gov't Shutdown, The Braves Won It All! #ThanksCongress"

Indeed in 1995, the federal government shut down, and that same year the Braves triumphed over the Indians in the World Series. Of course, that year the shutdown occurred after Atlanta hoisted the trophy (the shutdown started on Dec. 16, 1995 and ended on Jan. 6, 1996), but who's counting?

A historical imperative is what this is. Congratulations, Braves.
