VIDEO: Miguel Cabrera homers for first time since Sept. 17

By Matt Snyder | Baseball Writer

Tigers slugger, and probable AL MVP, Miguel Cabrera has been hampered by hip and abdominal issues for a while. In fact, the hip issue first surfaced in the last week of August and Cabrera entered Thursday with just two extra base hits since then -- a double (Sept. 13) and a home run (Sept. 17). He had been relegated a singles hitter in the ALDS.

Until Game 5 of the ALDS against rookie Athletics starter Sonny Gray, that is, when Cabrera lofted a shot to left field and it had just enough distance to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Here it is:

Now, does that mean Miggy's back to his old self? I'd say no. He still swung all arms and a fully healthy Cabrera probably hits that another 35 feet (or more). But still, it's a great sign for the Tigers and -- more importantly -- it may be the series-winning blow.
