ST. LOUIS -- So this marks the start of "Game Ending Audio," which brings you, variously, the explosion of joy or the groan-punctuated silence of the last out or hit of these most meaningful October games.

In Game 1 of the NLCS between the Dodgers and Cardinals, you'll be very unsurprised to learn that the Busch Stadium crowd's reaction can be characterized as being "as loud as loudness itself."

Carlos Beltran steps up in the 13th, scored tied at 2-2, winning run 180 feet from the plate, the 3-1 pitch comes in from Kenley Jansen ...

That's the sound of an NLCS walk-off hit -- before a home crowd, of course -- after almost five hours of baseball.
