Hero: Shout out to Jarrod Saltalamacchia for the walk-off single, but it's David Ortiz. Big Papi tied the game with a grand slam off Tigers closer Joaquin Benoit with two outs in the eight inning. Classic Ortiz. Uber-clutch.
Goat: The Tigers bullpen, which managed to allow four runs in the span of 2/3 of an inning in the eighth after Max Scherzer held the Red Sox to one run in seven brilliant innings. Jose Veras (one hit), Drew Smyly (one walk), Al Alburquerque (one walk) and Benoit (grand slam) all contributed to the carnage. Poor Rick Porcello had no chance after taking over a tie game in the ninth.
Turning point: Ortiz's grand slam. No question. It wasn't a matter of if the Red Sox would win, but how and when after that.
It was over when: When Salty drove in Jonny Gomes with a walk-off ground ball single in the ninth. Can't get any more over than that.
Next: The series now shifts to Comerica Park in Detroit for the next three games. These two teams will play Game 3 of the ALCS on Tuesday night, when Justin Verlander gets the ball against John Lackey.
