In nine World Series starts, Bob Gibson went 7-2 with a 1.89 ERA -- landing him safely in our top 10 list of all-time Fall Classic pitchers. His finest hour, though, was Game 1 of the 1968 World Series. Gibson threw a shutout while striking out a World Series record -- which still stands -- 17 hitters.

Though the Cardinals would go on to lose the series in seven games, Gibson's performance in Game 1 was one for the ages and is more than a worthy entry into our series of World Series memories.
