World Series Remember When: Bob Gibson strikes out 17

By Matt Snyder | Baseball Writer

World Series memories: Larsen's perfect game | Gibson's hobbled home run | Mays' over-shoulder catch | Podsednik's walkoff HR | Mazeroski's walkoff HR | Koufax's clutch shutout | Carter's series-ending homer

With the Cardinals just one game away from clinching a trip to the World Series, let us look back at an amazing pitching performance from a Cardinal hurler: The great Bob Gibson.

In nine World Series starts, Bob Gibson went 7-2 with a 1.89 ERA -- landing him safely in our top 10 list of all-time Fall Classic pitchers. Check it out:

Though the Cardinals would go on to lose the series in seven games, Gibson's performance in Game 1 was one for the ages and is more than a worthy entry into our series of World Series memories.
