MORE: Jim Leyland steps down

As our own Danny Knobler has written, Lloyd McLendon, a coach on Jim Leyland's staff for all eight seasons in Detroit, could be the ideal and seamless choice to replace Leyland as Tigers manager. In the interim, though, Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski is continuing on with his search. To that end, Chris Iott of MLive.com reports that Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach interviewed for the vacancy on Friday.

Dombrowski confirmed to Iott that two candidates have interviewed thus far -- Wallach and McLendon -- and said that Wallach "handled himself well" during his interview.

Wallach, who was a five-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glove third baseman during his 17-year playing career, has has previously managed for two seasons at the Triple-A level.
