Red Sox DH/first baseman/spiritual leader David Ortiz is no stranger to postseason excellence, but he might be at his very best in the 2013 World Series. Coming into Monday night's Game 5, Ortiz was batting a patently ridiculous .727/.750/1.364 through the first four games against the Cardinals.

Then, in Game 5, he tallied an RBI double in the first and then led off the fourth with a single. In doing so, he's reached base in nine consecutive plate appearances dating back to Game 3, and in doing that he's tied Billy Hatcher's 1990 World Series record for most consecutive times on base. Barring the unexpected, he'll try to set a new record later in the game.

For what it's worth, Ortiz entered Monday night as a career .436/.540/.795 hitter across 12 World Series games.
