Tigers third baseman and likely AL MVP Miguel Cabrera underwent successful "core muscle repair" surgery on Tuesday in Philadelphia. The team also announced that Cabrera will undergo physical rehab for the next six to eight weeks and, assuming no setbacks, should be ready for spring training.

Cabrera this season batted a stellar .348/.442/.636 (leading the majors on all three counts) with 44 home runs in 148 games. However, as injuries mounted Cabrera's power production suffered down the stretch. During the Tigers' playoff run, he was plainly not himself.

As far as his surgery goes, here are a pair of tweets from our own Danny Knobler that shed some light on the procedure:

Cabrera will be entering his age-31 season and is signed through 2015.
