Marlins' Jose Fernandez named 2013 NL Rookie of the Year

Marlins right-hander Jose Fernandez has been named by BBWAA voters as the 2013 National League Rookie of the Year. In the voting, Fernandez took 26 of 30 first-place votes and bested his fellow finalists, Yasiel Puig of the Dodgers, who finished second, and Shelby Miller of the Cardinals. Fernandez thus becomes the first native Cuban ever to win the award in the NL.

This season, Fernandez, who didn't turn 21 until July 31, pitched to a 2.19 ERA (second only the Clayton Kershaw's mark of 1.83), 176 ERA+, 0.98 WHIP and 3.22 K/BB in 177 2/3 innings. Fernandez also made the All-Star team and led the NL in hits-per-nine. His

Fernandez becomes the fourth Marlin to win the NL Rookie of the Year award, as he joins Chris Coghlan (2009), Hanley Ramirez (2006) and Dontrelle Willis (2003).
