According to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle, free agent right-hander Josh Johnson has let the Padres and Giants know that they're his top two choices for next season. As Schulman also notes, Johnson lives in nearby Las Vegas.

Johnson, 29, is coming off a 2013 season in which he struggled badly with the Blue Jays: 6.20 ERA, 1.66 WHIP in 81 1/3 innings. With that said, Johnson, over the first eight seasons of his career, pitched to a 3.15 ERA in 154 games, 144 of which were starts. He has had injury concerns throughout his career -- and in 2013 -- but he's not a bad candidate for a one-year, incentive-based "prove it" contract for the season ahead.

As for the Padres and Giants, each team could use rotation help (that's true of the Giants even after they signed Tim Hudson to a two-year deal), and each plays in the kind of pitcher's park that could help in Johnson's bid to rebound.
