IMPORTANT: That 'Royals' song was sort of inspired by the Royals

Regarding the origins of the song "Royals" by Lorde, which all of the kids and their saggy pants are listening to these days, there's this from VH1, which is MTV for those who hate MTV but don't hate MTV as much you should hate MTV ...

“I had this image from the National Geographic of this dude just signing baseballs,” Lorde told us when we sat down with her recently. “He was a baseball player and his shirt said, ‘Royals.'” Lorde was so taken by the image and the word that she penned the song around that idea. ”It was just that word. It's really cool.”

A brief and remarkably half-assed spelunking through Google Images turns up nothing that leads me to believe it's the photo in question, but I take her at her word, mostly because that would be an odd thing to lie about. In any event, there are worse things that giving rise to a paean to anti-consumerism, so good on you Royals of KC.

In visual summary, here's Steve Balboni's head sloppily Photoshopped onto a bottle of Cristal ...

We leave you with the official board-cerfied music video for "Royals" ...
