The Cubs have announced the hiring of Bill Mueller to be the team's hitting coach for the 2014 season.

Mueller, 42, joins the Cubs for his first full season as a hitting instructor. Mueller previously served as interim hitting coach for the Dodgers in the second half of the 2007 season and then transitioned into a front-office role with L.A. As a player, Mueller spent parts of two seasons with the Cubs. Across 11 seasons, Muller hit .291/.373/.425 and won the AL batting title in 2003 as a member of the Red Sox, where he played under then-GM Theo Epstein.

Elsewhere, the Cubs rounded out the staff of first-year manager Rick Renteria by announcing the hirings of Brandon Hyde as bench coach, Gary Jones as third base/infield coach, Mike Brumley as assistant hitting coach and Jose Castro as quality assurance coach. Returning to the staff from last season are pitching coach Chris Bosio, bullpen coach Lester Strode and catching and strategy coach Mike Borzello.
