According to Lynn Henning of the Detroit News, the Tigers are "moving toward a possible deal" with free agent closer Brian Wilson.

Wilson, 31, is coming off a partial 2013 season in which he posted an ERA of 0.66 in 13 2/3 innings for the Dodgers. Wilson didn't make his season debut until Aug. 22 because he was working his way back from Tommy John surgery performed in April of 2012.

For his career, Wilson has pitched to a 3.10 ERA (132 ERA+), 2.42 K/BB and 1.32 WHIP across parts of eight major-league seasons. As closer for the Giants, Wilson was a three-time All-Star. In his brief stint with the Dodgers, Wilson showed improving velocity and a deeper mix of pitches. As such, he profiles as a strong ninth-inning option for Detroit.

The Tigers have been in contending mode for several seasons, but they've struggled to find consistency in the closer's role. A Wilson signing would of course directly address that problem.
