Group of Giants prospects injured in Arizona crash

Four Giants minor-league prospects were injured, among others, in a traffic accident Tuesday morning in Scottsdale, Ariz., the club has announced.

Here is the club's statement:

Earlier this morning a passenger van transporting eleven Giants minor leaguers from the team hotel to the Giants minor league complex at Indian School in Scottsdale, Arizona, was involved in a two-vehicle traffic accident. Giants prospects Bryce Bandilla, Adalberto Mejia, Dan Slania, Jeff Soptic and Kelby Tomlinson were taken to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center where they were treated for minor injuries. All five players have been released from the hospital and are resting comfortably at the team hotel and will be checked by team doctors over the next 24 hours.

The players were riding in a van that was carrying 11 people and left a hotel around 8 a.m. local time, heading toward the training facility for the beginning of a three-week offseason conditioning program, frequented by players in the lower levels of the minors.

One unidentified person injured was taken to the hospital initially in critical condition, but has obviously come through the accident fine.
