Rangers, D-Backs among teams vying for Shin-Soo Choo at the moment

The Rangers and Diamondbacks are among the teams vying for free agent outfielder Shin-Soo Choo at the moment, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports says talks have reached a "critical stage."

Choo, 31, is the best position player left on the open market now that Robinson Cano and Jacoby Ellsbury have signed with the Mariners and Yankees, respectively. Carlos Beltran and Curtis Granderson have also signed, so the outfield crop isn't all that strong. Choo is clearly the best available.

In addition to the Rangers and Diamondbacks, clubs like the Mariners, Red Sox and Tigers could use an outfield bat. The Reds are unlikely to re-sign him simply because they can't afford him. Seattle threw huge bucks at Cano, is planning a run at David Price and is known to be seeking an outfielder, so they seem like the Rangers' most likely competition for Choo.

In 154 games for Cincinnati this past season, Choo hit .285/.423/.462 (143 OPS+) with 21 home runs and 20 stolen bases. Every team in baseball can use that bat.
