CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman confirms that the Diamondbacks, Angels and White Sox have agreed to a three-way trade that sends Mark Trumbo to Arizona, centerfielder Adam Eaton to Chicago and lefty pitchers Tyler Skaggs and Hector Santiago to Anaheim. Nick Piercoro of the Arizona Republic reports adds that the D-backs will also be receiving two players to be named later. The players to be named are likely prospects not on the respective 40-man rosters who must first clear Thursday's Rule 5 Draft.

As for the principals involved, Trumbo, 27, hit .234/.294/.453 (109 OPS+) with 34 home runs in 2013. He's hit 95 homers over the last three seasons, but he isn't much with the glove or on the bases. Power is also his only real offensive tool. With that said, the D-backs, who ranked 11th in the NL in homers last season, could certainly use some power.

Eaton is a 25-year-old fly-catcher with plus defensive skills in center who's batted .254/.332/.373 in 380 major-league plate appearances. Coming into 2013, Eaton was ranked as a top-100 prospect by both Baseball America and MLB.com.

As for Skaggs, the 22-year-old lefty has pitched only 68 innings at the highest level. However, he has a 3.34 ERA and 3.40 K/BB across 97 minor-league games, 87 of which have been starts. Skaggs also has genuine upside, as the former 40th-overall pick of the 2009 draft was ranked by MLB.com as a top-10 prospect overall coming into 2013. Of note: Skaggs was drafted by the Angels but was part of the 2010 trade with Arizona that brought Dan Haren to Anaheim.

Finally, Santiago, 25, has pitched to a 3.41 ERA, 126 ERA+ and 1.93 K/BB in 224 2/3 innings across parts of three big-league seasons. In terms of role, Santiago owns a career 3.30 ERA in 27 starts and a 3.62 mark in 51 relief appearances.
