The Marlins have, surprisingly, had a somewhat active winter thus far, and now they're taking a look at free agent Delmon Young, tweets Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald.

Young, age 28, batted .260/.307/.407 with 11 homers in 103 games for the Phillies and Rays. For his career, he owns an OPS+ of 98 across parts of eight major-league seasons.

Young has his uses in platoon-advantaged situations, but considering his severe defensive limitations, he's a poor fit for an NL team like the Marlins. He's been working out at first base this offseason, which, if it takes, makes him a bit more useful, but Young's best role is as the right-handed half of a DH platoon and nothing more.
