CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Pirates and Clint Barmes have agreed to terms on a new contract. The deal is presently being finalized.

Last season, Barmes, who turns 35 in March, batted .211/.249/.309 for Pittsburgh. That's obviously basement-level production, but Barmes still grades out as an excellent defensive shortstop. That's especially important for the Pirates, who in 2013 -- thanks to a calculated, team-wide change in approach -- had, by a substantial margin, the most groundball-inclined pitching staff in all of baseball.

For his career, Barmes owns an OPS+ of 75 across parts of 11 major-league seasons.
