UPDATE: Jon Heyman of reports that talks are serious and a decision could come Monday.

It's been known that an unnamed team has been closing in on a deal with free agent right-hander Gavin Floyd. Now, that team has a name. As David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution tweets, the Braves are believed to be nearing an agreement with Floyd on a contract for 2014.

Floyd, age 30, worked just 24 1/3 innings last season before undergoing Tommy John surgery in May. For his career, he's pitched to a 4.48 ERA (100 ERA+) and 2.32 K/BB ratio across parts of 10 major-league seasons with the Phillies and White Sox.

With the loss of Tim Hudson to the Giants via free agency and the injury concerns regarding Brandon Beachy, the Braves are in need of rotation depth. It remains to be seen how soon Floyd is able to round into form post-surgery, but he has some upside. Whatever contract he signs will likely be heavy on incentive clauses.
