The Yankees have signed free-agent, left-handed reliever Matt Thornton to a two-year, $7 million deal, confirms Jon Heyman of

The reported Thornton signing comes a few days after the Yankees lost lefty Boone Logan to free agency. As things stand, it appears Thornton may head into the season as the Yankees only lefty option in relief.

Thornton, 37, had a 3.74 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 30 strikeouts in 43 1/3 innings last season for the White Sox and Red Sox. He's still tough on lefties, as he held them to a .235/.267/.370 batting line last season with 20 strikeouts and only three walks. He does, however, need to be used strictly against left-handed hitters. Against right-handers last season, Thornton allowed a .333/.423/.405 line with 12 walks and 10 strikeouts.
