The Diamondbacks and free-agent infielder Eric Chavez have agreed to one-year contract worth $3.5 million, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. The deal includes another $1 million in roster bonuses.

Chavez, 36, hit .281/.332/.478 (120 OPS+) with nine home runs in 80 games for Arizona this past season. After injuries sabotaged his career years ago, he's settled in as a part-time third baseman/part-time first baseman these last few seasons.

With Matt Davidson having been traded away earlier this week, Chavez will serve as Martin Prado's primary backup at the hot corner as well as the D-Backs' lefty bat off the bench.
