The Twins have agreed to a one-year contract with veteran catcher Kurt Suzuki, reports Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports says he will earn $2.75 million plus incentives. The deal is pending a physical, which could happen as soon as today.

Suzuki, 30, hit .232/.290/.337 (73 OPS+) with five home runs in 94 games for the Nationals and Athletics in 2013. After posting a 95 OPS+ during the first three years of his career, he's slipped down to a 79 OPS+ over the last four seasons. Suzuki has caught at least 95 games in each of the last six years.

Joe Mauer is moving to first base full-time next season, and otherwise the Twins only have three young catchers (Eric Fryer, Chris Hermann, Josmil Pinto) on the 40-man roster. Suzuki gives the team some veteran depth at the most grueling position on the field.
