Photo of the Day: A young Hank Aaron, ready for the world

Feast your eyes upon a young and determined Hank Aaron, circa late 1951 ...

As Dugout Legends notes (a must-follow, if you're on Twitter), the photo is taken just prior to Aaron's $200-per-month hitch with the Negro League's Indianapolis Clowns beginning in 1952. In 1949, he'd been given a tryout with the Dodgers at the age of 15, but the team that inked Jackie Robinson apparently didn't see sufficient upside in Aaron, who, to be fair, was a famously raw hitter in his early days.

After Aaron led the Clowns to triumph in the 1952 Negro Leagues World Series, the New York Giants and Boston Braves competed for his services. Spoiler alert: He chose the Braves, for whom he would hit 733 of his 755 career home runs.
