Indians sign OF Jeff Francoeur to minor-league deal

On Monday, the Indians announced that they signed outfielder Jeff Francoeur to a minor-league contract. The deal includes an invitation to spring training.

Francoeur, age 29, batted .204/.238/.298 in 256 plate appearances for the Royals and Giants last season. For his career, he owns a slash line of .263/.306/.419 (91 OPS+) across parts of nine major-league seasons.

Francoeur last enjoyed a productive season in 2011. However, for his career he owns an OPS of .800 against lefties, so he still might have some limited value in platoon-advantaged situations.
