The Baltimore Orioles have signed free agent outfielder/designated hitter Delmon Young to a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to major-league camp, the club announced Monday. If he makes the club, the deal will be worth $1 million while Young also has the chance at an additional $750,000 in incentives, according to's Jon Heyman.

Young, 28, hit .260/.307/.407 with 16 doubles, 11 homers and 38 RBI in 361 plate appearances last season combined for two different teams. He was released by the Phillies in the middle of August and picked up by the Rays a week later.

Though he's not exactly coming off a good season, Young appears to have a great shot at playing time for Baltimore. Newly acquired David Lough should be able to handle left field duties, but that leaves Young competing with the likes of Nolan Reimold, Henry Urrutia and Steve Pearce for DH duty, assuming there are no further acquisitions.

Young was the first overall pick in the 2003 draft and though he had one really good season (2010), it's safe to say he's been a relative bust in his big-league career.
