The clock is ticking on the top free agent starters, who have roughly three weeks to sign before pitchers and catchers begin reporting to spring training in Florida and Arizona. Matt Garza's deal with the Brewers reportedly hit a snag on Thursday and there was no update on Friday. Here is the rest of the day's hot stove news.

EXTENSIONS

White Sox: Signed manager Robin Ventura to a multiyear contract extension. Terms are unknown.

TRADES

Giants: Acquired LHP David Huff from the Yankees for cash considerations, the teams announced. He was designated for assignment earlier this week to clear a roster spot for Masahiro Tanaka.

FREE AGENT SIGNINGS

Braves: Signed RHP Freddy Garcia to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. He can earn $1.25 million plus incentives if he makes the club.

Cubs: Signed 1B Lars Anderson to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training. (Baseball America)

Diamondbacks: Signed 1B/OF Shelley Duncan league contract with an invitation to spring training. (Baseball America)

Mariners: Signed RHP Mark Rogers to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training, the club announced.

Marlins: Signed IF Ty Wigginton to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training, the team announced.

Mets: Signed RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. He will earn a $1.5 million base salary if he makes the team.

Red Sox: Signed LHP Jose Mijares to a minor league pact with an invitation to spring training (Fox Sports) ... Agreed to a minor league deal with OF Scott Cousins. He gets an invite to spring training. Cousins is best remembered for breaking Buster Posey's ankle in a home plate collision a few years ago.

AVOIDED ARBITRATION

Cubs: Signed LHP Travis Wood to a one-year, $3.9 million contract. (CSN Chicago)

Phillies: Signed OF Ben Revere to a one-year contract worth $1.95 million plus incentives. (MLB.com)

Reds: Signed RHP Sam LeCure to a two-year contract worth $3.05 million, his agency announced.

RUMORS & SPECULATION

RHP Luis Ayala: Drawing interest from the Indians, Tigers and Mariners. (Jon Heyman)

C Yenier Bello: The Cuban backstop has been cleared and can now sign with any team as a free agent. He's considered a backup more than a starter. (MLB.com)

RHP Odrisamer Despaigne: The Cuban right-hander has officially been declared a free agent and is eligible to sign with any team. Despaigne is considered a reliever long-term. (MLB.com)

RHP Fernando Rodney: Four teams are interested in him, including the Orioles and Mets. (ESPN New York and Yahoo! Sports)

Blue Jays: GM Alex Anthopoulous said the team is "not done yet," but "at the same time we're not going to force anything." They're looking at pitching specifically. (Sportsnet.ca)

Orioles: They have had "recent, active dialogue" with RHP Ervin Santana, RHP Bronson Arroyo and RHP UBaldo Jimenez.
