Early on Sunday, actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead from an apparent drug overdose in his New York City apartment. He was only 46.
Hoffman was a brilliant (mostly) character actor who appeared in dozens of films, and in 2011 he played former Athletics manager Art Howe in Moneyball. Here's a scene from the movie in which GM Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) tells Howe he can't play rookie Carlos Pena at first base because he's been traded to the Tigers:
It's reasonable to say Howe was unfairly portrayed in the movie, but he was intended to come off a jerk in the script.
