Diamondbacks agree to extensions with Kirk Gibson, Kevin Towers

By Dayn Perry | Baseball Writer

Diamondbacks GM Kevin Towers and manager Kirk Gibson had been set to enter the 2014 season in the final year of their respective contracts. Now, though, the club has locked them up. From the official Twitter feed of note, with a statement from team president and CEO Derrick Hall ...

No details, as you can see, but the important takeaway is that the Snakes are now committed to both men -- at least financially -- beyond 2014.

Gibson has been on the job since midway through the 2010 season and has compiled a record of 290-279 (.510) across 3 1/2 seasons. Gibson has to his credit one division title (2011) and an average finish of 2.8 while at the helm. As for Towers, the former longtime Padres GM took over in Arizona in September 2010, shortly before that 94-win, division-championship season of 2011.

The D-Backs have finished with an 81-81 record in each of the past two seasons, which led many to speculate that Gibson and Towers would be under some degree of pressure in 2014. In fact, the D-Backs had previously declined their 2015 options on both. Now, though, consider that pressure significantly relieved.
