Mets sign Kyle Farnsworth to minor league contract

The Mets have signed right-hander Kyle Farnsworth to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training, the team announced. Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports he will earn $1 million with another $1.5 million in incentives if he makes the team.

Farnsworth, 37, had a 4.70 ERA (81 ERA+) with a 1.38 WHIP in 38 1/3 innings for the Rays and Pirates last season. His strikeout rate dropped to 6.6 K/9, the lowest is has been since his rookie season in 1999.

The Mets figure to bring in some more low cost arms to help fill out the bullpen in the coming weeks.
