The Indians and outfielder Michael Brantley are close to a multiyear contract extension, reports Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. The deal could be for four years with an option for a fifth year.

Brantley, 26, hit .284/.332/.396 (107 OPS+) while setting career-highs in home runs (10), stolen bases (17) and games played (151) last season. He has put up a 110 OPS+ since become an everyday player in 2012.

The Indians originally acquired Brantley from the Brewers as part of the CC Sabathia trade way back in 2008. He spent the first few years of his career in center field, but the Michael Bourn signing pushed him to left last year.

Brantley would not have been eligible for free agency until after the 2016 season. His deal could be in line with the four-year, $20.5 million deal the Mariners gave Franklin Gutierrez a few years ago.
