Veteran righty Roy Oswalt to retire

Veteran right-hander Roy Oswalt, 36, has announced his retirement from MLB, confirms CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman. Heyman adds that Oswalt has already begun working for his agent, Bob Garber.

Across parts of 13 big-league seasons, Oswalt went 163-102 (.615) with a 3.36 ERA (127 ERA+) in 2,245 1/3 innings for the Astros, Phillies, Rangers and Rockies.

Twice Oswalt won 20 games in a season. He also made the All-Star team three times, and five times he finished in the top five of the NL Cy Young balloting. In 2005 for the Astros, he was named NLCS MVP. He ranks 100th on the all-time list for career WAR by a pitcher.

Oswalt was originally a 23rd-round choice by the Astros in 1996. out of Holmes Community College in Mississippi.
