Jurickson Profar limited due to shoulder tendinitis

Rangers second baseman Jurickson Profar will be limited for a few weeks in spring training due to tendinitis in his right shoulder, general manager Jon Daniels told reporters Wednesday (dallasnews.com).

Profar might be relegated to designated hitter duties in the first few spring games but isn't expected to be limited beyond the early-going in spring, per Daniels.

The Rangers cleared a spot at second base for the heavily-hyped infielder -- he was the top-ranked prospect in all of baseball last year at this time -- when they traded Ian Kinsler to the Tigers this offseason.

Profar, 20, hit .234/.308/.336 (76 OPS+) with 11 doubles, six homers and two stolen bases last season in 324 plate appearances, but he was only 20, wasn't getting regular playing time and bounced around the diamond. It wouldn't be surprising to see a marked improvement this year, assuming he gets over the shoulder issue as quickly as expected.
