CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Red Sox have agreed to terms with free agent left-hander Chris Capuano on a major-league contract that will pay him a guaranteed $2.25 million with incentives that could push the deal to $5 million.

Capuano, age 35 and a native of Springfield, Mass., is coming off a 2013 season in which he pitched to a 4.26 ERA (84 ERA+) and 3.38 K/BB ratio in 105 2/3 innings for the Dodgers. For his career, Capuano owns an ERA+ of 97 across parts of nine major-league seasons. Of his 238 career games, 209 have been starts.

Over the course of his career, Capuano has limited left-handed hitters to an OPS of .619, so he could also be useful in a lefty specialist role in addition to serving as a long man and providing rotation insurance for Boston.
