Tuesday, we learned that left-handed Cardinals pitcher Jaime Garcia needed to visit Dr. James Andrews to have his shoulder checked. This coming off a season-ending shoulder surgery and being a visit to Dr. Andrews, it was easy to assume the news would be bad.

Instead, Garcia and the Cardinals appear to have gotten some very good news. Tests showed inflammation but not structural damage to the shoulder.

“I think it's good news,” general manager John Mozeliak said (MLB.com). “We were certainly hopeful that it was not going to be something where he had to have surgery. This is certainly better than what it could have been, yes.”

Garcia, 27, was 5-2 with a 3.58 ERA (102 ERA+) in nine starts last season. If he's healthy, he'll be in the mix with Adam Wainwright, Lance Lynn, Michael Wacha, Shelby Miller, Joe Kelly and possibly some others for a rotation spot heading into the season.
