MLB issues strongly worded statement against AZ Sen. Bill 1062

By Mike Axisa | Baseball Writer

UPDATE, 8:15 p.m. ET: Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer says she has vetoed the controversial "anti-gay" bill.

Arizona Senate Bill 1062, which was introduced by Senator Steve Yarbrough, is a controversial bill that would essentially allow discrimination under the umbrella of religious preference. It is currently sitting on the desk of Governor Jan Brewer, who has until Friday to veto the bill. You can read more about it at CBS Washington.

On Wednesday, Major League Baseball issued a strongly worded statement against SB 1062:

MLB is not threatening any action should SB 1062 pass, and frankly it's tough to see them pulling the Diamondbacks out of Arizona anytime soon. The league is now on record as being strongly opposed to the bill, however.
