Another day of spring training in the books means we're another day closer to the start of the regular season and meaningful baseball. Hooray for that. Here's a recap of Wednesday's baseball news.

JON HEYMAN

DH Adam Dunn: Says his only goal is to play in the postseason for the first time in his career.

RHP Matt Harvey: Will earn $546,625 in 2014 as he rehabs from Tommy John surgery.

DH Jim Thome: Enjoys his front office job, but he is open to continuing his career is a team makes an offer.

RETIREMENTS

OF Rick Ankiel: Has retired from baseball according to a television report. His journey from stud southpaw to serviceable outfielder is one of the most fascinating baseball stories of the last 15 years.

RHP Brian Sanches: Announced his retirement. He had a 3.75 ERA in parts of seven big league seasons.

ROSTER CUTS

Rangers: Designated OF Alex Castellanos for assignment, the team announced. The move clears a 40-man roster spot for the recently signed LHP Joe Saunders.

RUMORS & SPECULATION

C Jarrod Saltalamacchia: Said he received six or seven offers this offseason, but the Red Sox's was the smallest. (Boston Globe)

Red Sox: There has been no recent progress in contract extension talks with LHP Jon Lester, who can become a free agent after the season. (WEEI.com)

Astros: OF Dexter Fowler was scratched from Wednesday's game with a stiff neck and is day-to-day (MLB.com) ... OF Adron Chambers (hamstring) participated in outfield and base-running drills. (Houston Chronicle)

Braves: LHP Mike Minor (sore shoulder) threw his first bullpen session ... LHP Jonny Venters (Tommy John surgery) threw off a mound for the first time ... RHP Gavin Floyd (Tommy John surgery) faced hitters in live batting practice for the first time ... RHP Luis Vasquez (lat) threw live batting practice. (MLB.com)

Cardinals: RHP Trevor Rosenthal (groin) threw live batting practice for the first time (St. Louis Post-Dispatch) ... OF Peter Bourjos will be held out of action for at least one more day with leg tightness ... Manager Mike Matheny confirmed there is no spring debut date for top prospect Oscar Taveras, who had ankle surgery last August. (MLB.com)

Cubs: RHP Jake Arrieta (shoulder) threw off a mound for the first time this spring. (MLB.com)

Dodgers: OF Matt Kemp (ankle surgery) ran sprints and did agility drills (Orange County Register) ... RHP Zack Greinke (calf) threw a bullpen session for the first time since getting hurt (MLB.com) ... RHP Ross Stripling had surgery to remove loose bodies from his elbow. Once the swelling goes down, he will have Tommy John surgery. (Los Angeles Times)

Giants: 2B Marco Scutaro (back) is being brought along slowly and will likely make his spring debut Sunday or Monday. (San Francisco Chronicle)

Mariners: RHP Stephen Pryor (lat surgery) threw his fourth bullpen session of the spring. (MLB.com)

Nationals: RHP Ross Ohlendorf (side, finger) will make his spring debut on Friday. (Washington Post)

Orioles: 3B Manny Machado (knee surgery) moved side-to-side during fielding drills for the first time (Baltimore Sun) ... RHP Dylan Bundy (Tommy John surgery) is expected to start throwing off flat ground later this month (MASN Sports) ... IF Alexi Casilla (hamstring) hit on the field (MASN Sports) ... 2B Chris Marrero (oblique) started taking dry swings (MASN Sports) ... Rockies: OF Michael Cuddyer may miss a few games after taking a pitch to the shoulder. (Denver Post)

Royals: RHP Luke Hochevar will be out until at least May with a sprained elbow ligament.

Tigers: SS Jose Iglesias (shin splints) has resumed playing catch. (Detroit Free Press)

Twins: SS Pedro Florimon (appendectomy) fielded grounders and is back to performing baseball activites. (MLB.com)

White Sox: RHP Nate Jones (glute) threw an extended bullpen session and could soon appear in a game ... RHP Matt Lindstrom (oblique) will rest for a few days after suffering a slight setback. (CSN Chicago)

Nationals: RHP Stephen Strasburg showed off his new slider in Wednesday's start.
