In his second game (first start) of the spring, Yankees right-hander Masahiro Tanaka allowed a solo home run to Freddy Galvis in three otherwise strong innings. He struck out one and got seven ground balls outs compared to only one in the air. Here's the splitter he used to strike out Chase Utley:
The only other hit Tanaka allowed was an opposite-field double to Marlon Byrd on a hanging slider. He threw 25 of 41 pitches for strikes and has now allowed one run in five innings of work.
Tanaka threw two scoreless innings of relief in his first spring outing against those same Phillies last weekend. He next start will likely come late next week.
Thursday afternoon's game was delayed 90 minutes by heavy rain, which has cancelled several Grapefruit League games around the league.
