The Colorado Rockies will open the 2014 season against the Miami Marlins on March 31. When they do so, 32-year-old starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa will be making his first career opening day start. The club made it official Wednesday (via denverpost.com).

De La Rosa was the easy choice once Jhoulys Chacin was dealing with arm issues. He was 16-6 with a 3.49 ERA (127 ERA+), 1.38 WHIP and 112 strikeouts in 167 2/3 innings last season. As noted by Troy Renck of the Denver Post, De La Rosa was 10-0 when taking the hill after Rockies' losses last season.

De La Rosa's counterpart on opening day will be Marlins phenom Jose Fernandez, the 2013 NL Rookie of the Year.
