On the MLB spring training front, here's all that's worth knowing for Tuesday, March 18 ...


- Our man in the chopper writes that Indians ace Justin Masterson still hasn't heard back from the team after making some (very reasonable) proposals for a contract extension. Masterson, 28, is eligible for free agency next offseason. Elsewhere, Heyman writes that Grady Sizemore is making a strong bid to be the Red Sox's starting center fielding on opening day.


- Astros: Jayson Stark tweets that the Astros are interested in acquiring a first baseman via trade.

- Cardinals: The team has cut ties with longtime team medical director Dr. George Paletta, reports Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

- Mets: A source tells Adam Rubin of ESPN New York that the Mets are once again shopping 1B Ike Davis.

- Phillies: According to ESPN.com's Buster Olney, some within the organization want to see SS Jimmy Rollins traded right away.

- Pirates: Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review writes that the Pirates may be shopping OF Jose Tabata, reliever Vin Mazzaro and OF Travis Snider.

- Royals: Hard-throwing phenom Yordano Ventura has won a spot in the Royals' rotation.


- Indians: Have signed RHP Adam Miller to a minor-league contract.


- Blue Jays: CL Casey Janssen (shoulder) tossed live BP on Tuesday, and barring setback he'll make his Grapefruit League debut on Friday. (Adam Berry, MLB.com)

- Dodgers: OF Carl Crawford was forced from a minor-league exhibition game on Tuesday with what the team is terming a "very minor" injury to his right shoulder. (Steve Dilbeck, Los Angeles Times)

- Mariners: RHP Hisashi Iwakuma (finger) has been cleared to begin a throwing program. He'll open the regular season on the DL. (Bob Dutton via Twitter)

- Padres: 3B Chase Headley (calf) will make his Cactus League debut on Thursday. (Corey Brock via Twitter)

- Pirates: C Chris Stewart is likely headed for surgery on his injured right knee. (Bill Brink via Twitter)

- Rangers: DH Mitch Moreland has a strained left oblique and may be forced to open the season on the DL ... T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com writes that SS Elvis Andrus has been shut down with a sore right elbow. He won't throw for at least the next three days and won't play before this weekend.
