Reds closer Aroldis Chapman was carried off the field on a stretcher Wednesday night after being struck in the face by a liner off the bat of Salvador Perez of the Royals.

The Reds later announced that tests revealed that Chapman, who never lost consciousness, had fractures above his left eye and nose. He was being kept overnight at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix for further tests and observation.

It was by all accounts a very scary scene in Surprise, Ariz. Here's the video:

After Chapman was removed from the field on a stretcher, the rest of the game was canceled.

Here are some tweets from writers covering the game as things unfolded:

We'll update once there's further news on Chapman's condition, but for now it sounds like it could've been much, much worse.
